OpenStreetMap armchair mapping

Speaker: silwol
Prerequisites: A laptop with a JRE and JOSM installed if possible, otherwise we install it in the workshop.

In the recent months, several sources of information for geographic data have been made available with the permission to use them in free geographic data collections such as OpenStreetMap. There is aerial imagery available from Bing maps and for Austria from geoimage.at.

A first short part introduces the data structures used in the OpenStreetMap database.

The second and longer part shows how to configure the OpenStreetMap editor JOSM for use with aerial images, and teaches the skills that are required to transfer the information from there into the OpenStreetMap database as consistently as possible.
